A mysterious rotating telegraph device, perhaps meant to split single signals into multiple parts for simultaneous transmission with other talk. Perhaps it is used to make time, though a time which is read only by other machines, in other places; machines need time like we need shoes, to walk the stony road, find a place on the slippery rocks, and get from here to there.
Ironically, Spiralum was herself an electrical inventor, who dreamed of developing the means to transmit moving pictures through the telephone.
