Most of the material that fused there during the blast has already been bulldozed up, though not before many enlisted men were able to collect barrels full to sell to rock collectors. Unfortunately, this was a dirty bomb. most of the plutonium vaporized and was captured in the green glass (trinitite) that came to cover the ground in a circle around the vanished tower.     I knew that I was from Alamogordo. I realized that couldn't be more than 50 miles, by car. But I didn't know how I could ever get back.
